Where it all begins…
About a year ago, I gave birth to my first daughter. Although I was petite and slim before pregnancy, I couldn’t control my eating habits while being pregnant. After I gave birth to my beautiful bundle of joy, I was strapped with a total post partum weight gain of 18kg. That’s like almost half of my previous weight of 45kg! (Yes, I was quite a small built). Balancing between full time work and motherhood left me only a small fraction of time for myself, and I simply did not exercise. With breastfeeding, I couldn’t control my appetite, as I was constantly hungry. I was overweight, depressed, couldn’t fit into my old clothes, and I knew I needed a change.
I did some research online in search of a right weight loss product, and landed on home fitness DVD. With the traffic congestion around where I live and my very tight work schedule being an investment banker, I knew that gym is out of the question for me. I started with Zumba, but 60 minutes was too long for me (I was waking up at 5.30am, in order for me to be out the door by 8 am). My sister was then doing Jillian Michaels Shred, and I saw her transformation to a toned body, and decided to pick up JM’s Body Revolution, which cuts my workout into 30 minutes per day. Having seen Jillian Michaels transform lives on the popular TV program, The Biggest Loser gave me assurance, however I was a tad skeptical on whether the product could be overhyped that could possible be capitalizing on Jillian’s reputation on TV. The reviews from Amazon.com and other reviews sites look positive, and it looks like a person having a normal fitness level like me, could possibly do it.
After 98 days (I did an extra 8 days in replacement of those days which I slacked or cheated), I feel amazing! I am back to my size 6 figure again (from size 12), and now I have abs where I did not have before! My arms are toned, and my body fat level dropped down to 3 (which is at the fitness level)! I have never felt better of myself than before, at 32 years of age! All you need is 30 minutes a day, and determination!
I figured I should write a review, to help most of you who is battling the decision whether to go for it or not (like I did). I will write down exactly what the program is about, how it works, why it works. I will also list down some pointers and things to look out for to help you with the program. After seeing my transformation, my husband has also started using it, and so far (he’s only at week 3), he has amazingly lost his extra fats and is getting toned from the total body workout!

My story began a couple of months ago. I had just got back from visiting a friend in the hospital. He was only 35 (the same age as me) and diagnosed with diabetes. It got me thinking about the importance of getting some exercise to get myself into shape. I hadn’t been exercising regularly since I started working and I realised that if health scares like these could happen to my mate, then it could sure as hell happen to me too!

The best thing about this program is that I have actually seen the transformation. It has really revolutionised my body (no pun intended). My tummy is flat and my arms and thighs are toned. I finally have abs on my chest. Amazing!
I am so happy with the results that this program has produced. I would recommend it to anyone. But don’t just take my word for it on a whim. This is my story and my journey.

For some, this may seem like high, but it is in fact an awfully low price in exchange for the incredible results, in only 90 days, and 30 minutes a day! The alternatives would be a gym membership, which could be ranging from $50 – $120 per month, but you may not be able to sculpt your body which a personal trainer could help you with. A decent personal training package will cost approximately $50 per hour, and you would need consistent training for at least 6 months, at least 3 times a week, and 60 minutes per session for decent results. Just like my friend who has spent $2,500 but did not even see half the results that Jillian have. And even then, you will not have guidance like this to help you on your diet and nutrition.
Other options around this price range would be another home fitness program, but it doesn’t get better than Jillian’s Body Revolution, by far.
I’ve completed P90X, Insanity, and Turbofire. By far, this is the best of the bunch. Jillian Michaels really knows how to motivate and get the job done in 30 minutes.

Hence, in my opinion, Body Revolution is an investment totally worthwhile and you will have ownership of the program evermore, which means, if you want to anytime in the future, you could repeat the program again, over and over. Imagine how many pounds that would be lost from now! This is the only weight loss / fitness program that you need, and I guarantee you will save tons of money in the long run.

I wasn’t at all surprise to note that there are plenty of good (mostly 5 star) reviews on the program. The user review section on Amazon is colonized with reviews of astounding results from the program, and very few had negative comments. On average, the program scored 4.5 stars on Amazon.

Each Phase in Body Revolution contains 5 routines – 4 “workouts” and 1 “cardio”. These will be weekly routines for the entire month, with a whole new set of routines the next month.
The routines will be something like the following:
As you can see from the above table, you wont be doing the same workout daily. The workout rotates between days and you progress to new workouts every fortnightly. Workout 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 works on the muscles on the front of your body, whilst Workout 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 works on the muscles on the back of your body. The daily rotation between the front and back of body, then cardio is extremely great news for those who gets bored quickly. The rotation also ensures that each fortnight is different from the previous and hence your results don’t plateau.
As for cardio workouts, there will be only 3 cardio workouts, and each cardio workout lasts an entire “phase” (or 4 weeks).
The workout typically goes for approximately 25 to 35 minutes, and you are advised to do one workout per day. There is an optional / additional kick-start week if you opt to do it, which goes concurrently with week 1. Hence if you choose to do the optional kick-start week, you would do 2 workouts per day, one in the morning, and another in the evening. Kick-start routine is purely cardio, hence on Wednesday and Saturday, you would be doing cardio twice.
The program is designed for all fitness levels, as there are various modifications for different moves.
Should you purchase from the Official Website, you will be provided with a resistance cable, but you will need to purchase some handweights too. For handweights, you will need at least one pair which is quite heavy (but to the extent that you could bear for at least 3 minutes), and you need a lighter pair which you could comfortably hold for at least 10 minutes. However, for me, I have used a variety of 3, which is 2 kg, 4 kg and 6 kg.
The meal plans with recipe and groceries list is typically a 1,200 calorie per day diet. It gives you your daily nutrition needs but yet allows you to feel full enough throughout the day. Charts are also provided so you can keep track of the energy which you have burnt and your caloric intake.
So, you love food, glorious FOOD, and you’re a bit concerned on whether you will survive the diet in the next 90 days. Whilst there are people who did not follow the diet at all, and still managed to lose a handsome amount of weight, and some kept to a calories of 1,200 per day without referring to the Meal Plan, who lost 15kg, and not just that, have a 6-pack to show, you’re wondering whether you could skip the Meal Plan, and eat your normal meals, but limit the carbs and fats.
However, Jillian advises that workouts alone are recommended to lose BIG. Weight loss in a BIG way requires the combined power of focused exercise and the right diet. I did follow the Meal Plan up to week 4, thereafter I had used the list of Yes Food that Jillian has provided in the Meal Plan as guidance, without following the Meal Plan’s recipe. However, if you can and will follow the Meal Plan, in my opinion the Meal Plan has great recipes, cleverly and precisely designed to ensure your journey is a success as it is skillfully made for weight loss without you feeling deprived. On top of that, the Meal Plan not only clear your system of overly processed, unhealthy junk food, it also provides nourishment to your body.

Some Recommendations / Pointers In Using the Program: (in no particular order of importance)
1) It is important to stay hydrated while exercising. Studies have shown that adequate fluid intake is essential for your system to be working efficiently and metabolism up, burning more calories in the process!
To achieve that, drink water BEFORE and AFTER each workout to stay hydrated.

Just thought I’d share this video about what kind of workouts you will be getting into with the program.

I started the program with the goal of losing 20 pounds. Personally, I thought that it was quite a modest target considering that the other reviews on the website have stated that people have lost a lot more than that.
The first thing I observed was that the training that the program puts you through is very intensive. The metabolic exercises really stretch your muscles and put strain on them. This results in a fair bit of pain after completing the daily half an hour tasks. A few weeks into the program I could really feel the difference as my muscles started to get more tense and firm. Although I was aching a bit from top to bottom, I must say that I was pretty happy with the results. Continue reading »
